Clear Internet Browser Cache

Why clear your browser cache?

Clearing your cache can fix common issues such as:

  • Pages not loading correctly
  • Seeing outdated content
  • Login or display errors after system or application updates

This is a safe first step recommended by  George's IT Service Desk.

 

Google Chrome

Fast method (recommended):

  1. Open Google Chrome
  2. Press Ctrl + Shift + Delete (Windows) or Command + Shift + Delete (Mac)
  3. Set Time range to All time
  4. Check Cached images and files
  5. Click Clear data

Menu method:

  1. Click the three dots (⋮) → Settings
  2. Select Privacy and security
  3. Click Clear browsing data
  4. Follow steps 3–5 above

 

Microsoft Edge

Fast method (recommended):

  1. Open Microsoft Edge
  2. Press Ctrl + Shift + Delete (Windows) or Command + Shift + Delete (Mac)
  3. Set Time range to All time
  4. Check Cached images and files
  5. Click Clear now

Menu method:

  1. Click the three dots (⋯) → Settings
  2. Select Privacy, search, and services
  3. Under Clear browsing data, click Choose what to clear
  4. Follow steps 3–5 above

 

Good to know

  • Clearing the cache does not delete saved passwords or bookmarks
  • If problems continue, try:
    • Closing and reopening the browser
    • Using an Incognito / InPrivate window
    • Clearing cookies as well
